Urban-Rural Gap Continues To Be Bridged By Strategic Resource Management
KUCHING: The gap between urban and rural communities continues to be bridged by leveraging Sarawak’s growing wealth and strategic resource management.
Pakan Assemblyman Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom said the vision and planned strategies articulated by the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg is a reassuring narrative that bolsters the confidence of rural communities.
He said that the popular narratives that will further be ingrained in the rural population’s development language are ‘Strengthening Regional Development’, and ‘Enhancing Urban-Rural Economic Integration’.
“It is a commitment to promote inclusive development and equitable wealth distribution to ensure no Sarawakian will be left behind.
“This would contribute to further bridging regional disparities and ensure that prosperity is shared among all segments of society. The sense of social justice and commitment to egalitarian values prevails,” he stressed.
He said this while debating the Supply (2026) Bill, 2025, during the Third Meeting of the Fourth Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Friday.
Tan Sri William Mawan added that the people of Pakan joined him in welcoming the assurance by the Sarawak Premier that the government would continue to accelerate rural development and intensify the implementation of infrastructure projects to bridge the development gap between urban and rural regions.
He commended the state’s economic strategy anchored in the principle of inclusive growth, focusing on uplifting rural communities and the B40 income segment. -UKASnews
