Borneo IRT 2026 Set To Unite Over 1,000 Participants In Miri
MIRI: The Borneo International Robot Tournament (Borneo IRT) 2026 is set to return in full swing, scheduled to be held at the Grand Ballroom, Level 7, Meritz Hotel from 6 to 9 May.
The international-level programme is jointly organised by the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of SMK Chung Hua Miri and the school’s alumni association with support from various agencies including the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD).
The tournament marks its fourth edition following the success of previous editions held in 2019, 2024 and 2025 which have received international recognition.
This year’s edition also features the “Robomission Battle LEGO Education SPIKE Prime” competition which serves as the main attraction of the programme.
The competition is expected to gather around 1,000 to 1,200 participants and officials from both local and international levels involving 288 teams comprising students aged between 9 and 21 years old.
Countries expected to take part include the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Canada, as well as several Asian and European countries.
Thus, a total of six categories will be contested including Robomission Battle for primary, secondary and upper levels, RoboSport (Double Tennis), RoboSumo and League of Mecha-clash (LOM) Matrix.
Each team is made up of two participants, guided by a mentor or teacher to design and programme robots using the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime set.
In addition to the competition, the event will also feature an international robotics conference as well as interactive sessions between participants and experts in the field of technology.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 7 May while the closing ceremony and prize presentation will be held on the evening of 9 May. -UKASnews
