MySRBN Adoption Rises As Sarawak Strengthens Digital Identity Integration
KUCHING: Sarawak’s efforts to widen affordable digital access continue to gain traction, with the MySRBN prepaid internet plan recording steady growth alongside a major milestone in digital identity integration.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said 37,000 households are now enjoying MySRBN services, marking an increase of 6,000 households compared to May this year.
“This encouraging growth reflects the effectiveness of community outreach efforts carried out by the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC). We will continue expanding this initiative across Sarawak to ensure wider subscription and accessibility,” he said during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Monday.
According to him, SDEC has also introduced MySRBN XL, Malaysia’s first prepaid high-speed home fibre service designed especially for rural communities.
The service leverages the fibre Point-of-Presence (PoP) infrastructure developed by local Sarawak company Borneo Restu Sdn. Bhd., enabling residents to enjoy speeds of up to 100 Mbps without being tied to monthly bills.
He said the prepaid plan starts from as low as RM25, offering users a flexible and affordable alternative.
All new subscribers will also enjoy a free first month of usage followed by promotional rates for the next five months.
“So far, 3,300 premises have subscribed to MySRBN XL, which is now available in 272 locations statewide,” he added.
Touching on digital identity integration, he said Sarawak has reached a significant milestone following the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State Government and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA).
With 1.8 million registered users, SarawakPass will be integrated with MyDigital ID to create a more comprehensive and secure digital ecosystem in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“This move enhances digital inclusivity while strengthening cybersecurity in public service delivery. It reflects Sarawak’s unity and commitment to national progress, extending across the South China Sea into the digital domain,” he said.
He added that Sarawak stands ready as a catalyst for digital innovation, contributing to the nation’s advancement through improved accessibility, security and technological empowerment. -UKASnews
