Kuching Centralised Sewerage System Package 2 Scheduled To Be Completed By Mid 2026
KUCHING: The Kuching Centralised Sewerage System Package 2 project is scheduled to be fully completed by the middle of next year.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian said that this sewerage system worth RM750 million is currently at 99.7 per cent completion, with property connection works remaining.
“As for the Kuching Centralised Sewerage System Zone 1 Package 3 project with a scheme value of RM382 million, it is now in the detailed design stage. The tender for works is expected to be called in the second quarter of 2026,” he said.
The Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, he informed that the Kota Samarahan Centralised Sewerage System Phase 1 project with a scheme value of RM650 million is now in its initial design stage, with the tender for works expected to be called in 2027.
Additionally, the Miri Centralised Sewerage System Phase 2 with a scheme value of RM450 million is now in detailed design stage and scheduled to be tendered in the first quarter of 2026.
“The Federal Government loan agreement for the rationalisation of sewerage system for North-South catchment, Bintulu with a scheme value of RM225 million has been finalised.
“The project is currently in the consultancy services procurement stage,” he said.
Touching on septic sludge treatment plants (SSTP), Datuk Amar Dr Sim said that four SSTP projects totaling RM60 million in Betong, Sarikei, Kapit and Limbang that were previously put on hold by the Federal Government will fully commence physical works in 2026.
According to him, the site for Sri Aman-Betong SSTP was handed over to the contractor on 31 October 2025, while the tender for the remaining three SSTPs is scheduled to be called in 2026.
He added that the Federal Government has approved the Wastewater Management Master Plan Study for Bintulu with a scheme value of RM2 million, under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) Rolling Plan 1 (RP1).
“The procurement of consultancy services will commence once the loan agreement is finalised,” he stressed. -UKASnews
