RM700 Incentive Reflects Sarawak Premier’s Recognition Of Media’s Role As Vital Communication Bridge Between Government & Rakyat
KUCHING: The announcement of a one-off RM700 incentive for private media practitioners has been described as a clear recognition by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg of the media’s essential role as a communication ‘bridge’ that ensures accurate information is conveyed without confusion between the government and the people, particularly regarding the state’s development direction.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the Sarawak Premier has always placed strong emphasis on the role of the media in disseminating information on development agendas and new economic initiatives introduced by the government to ensure the public fully understands them.
“He (the Premier of Sarawak) recognises and appreciates that media practitioners serve as a crucial communication bridge in ensuring the delivery of accurate information and preventing confusion between the government and the community regarding the various development agendas mapped out by the state,” he told the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) on Wednesday.
Datuk Abdullah added that Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari was quick and forthcoming in approving this assistance as an appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of media personnel serving in Sarawak.
“On behalf of the entire media fraternity in Sarawak, we deeply appreciate the Sarawak Premier’s concern and support. I am confident that this assistance will help ease their daily expenses,” he added.
Earlier in his winding-up speech, the Sarawak Premier announced that, as a gesture of appreciation, the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government will provide a one-off RM700 incentive to private media practitioners registered as of 1 December 2025 with six media associations in the state. -UKASnews
