Sarawak Chefs To Showcase Local Flavours At Khadhya Khurak 2025 In India
KUCHING: Four Sarawakian chefs will represent Kuching and Sarawak at the 22nd Khadhya Khurak 2025, one of India’s largest food exhibitions, to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from December 15 to 18.
Leading the delegation is Chef Julian Lai Leonard Henry of Little Hainan Restaurant, who will receive the King Chef Award in recognition of his culinary leadership and has been invited to serve as a judge for the Super Chef Competition, the exhibition’s main highlight broadcast nationwide across India.
Joining him are Chef Robbie Richard Balcarek of Little Fairy Cafe, Chef Iana anak Akam of Fairy Tavern and Chef Annie Wee of Annie Kolo Mee, who will compete as Star Participants in the Super Chef Competition 2025 Season 5 under the Non-Fire Cooking Category, with their segments broadcast live and televised.
The send-off ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Kuching South City Hall, Dato Wee Hong Seng, together with Councillor Isaac Lee, Councillor Wilfred Mujah, Councillor Thomas Sim and Councillor Andy Tan, reflecting strong support from the Kuching South City Hall.
During the ceremony, the Mayor handed over the Sarawak flag to Chef Julian Lai as Head of Delegation, symbolising trust and pride in representing Sarawak on the international stage.
At the exhibition, the chefs will highlight Sarawak and Borneo ingredients such as dabai, bunga kantan, rambutan, tepus, bambangan, durian flower, roselle flower and Sabah avocado to promote Sarawak’s culinary identity and support Kuching’s status as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
The Mayor expressed confidence in the delegation’s ability to showcase Sarawak’s flavours and wished them success at Khadhya Khurak 2025. -UKASnews
