KUCHING: The presence of Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, added to the excitement and prestige of the Gabungan Jurutera Perunding Bumiputera Sarawak (GJPBS) Pickleball Invitational Tournament 2025, which took place today.
What made it more special was that he himself competed, representing the Sarawak Secretary's Office in the VIP Event category.
The spirit he demonstrated served as a motivator for his team, as the Sarawak Secretary's Office team emerged as the overall champions of the group category after defeating the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
This success saw them claim the championship title, taking home the tournament trophy, medals, and a cash prize totalling RM3,000.
SEDC accepted their second-place finish, securing medals and a cash prize of RM1,500.
Meanwhile, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) took third place in the group category, receiving medals and a cash prize of RM1,000.
In the VIP category, first place went to the Public Works Department (JKR) after they successfully overcame their closest rivals, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), in the final match of that category.
The JKR win earned them medals and a cash prize of RM1,000, while the SEB pair acknowledged their defeat, taking home a prize of RM500.
The Land and Survey Department (JTS) finished in third place in the VIP category, securing medals and a cash prize of RM300.
The tournament involved a total of 16 teams: the Sarawak Secretary's Office, JKR Sarawak, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) Sarawak, JTS Sarawak, SEB, IEM Sarawak Branch, Borneo Development Corporation (BDC) Sdn Bhd, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), SEDC, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), CIDB Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), and GJPBS. – UKASnews
