Mukah Hockey Development Gains Momentum Through Strong Youth Performances
MUKAH: The development of hockey in Mukah Division continues to gain momentum, with local teams recording encouraging performances at state and national levels, reflecting the positive impact of consistent grassroots development and multi-agency support.
Mukah District Education Officer Awang Yusri Awang Adeni said sustained participation in tournaments organised by external associations has helped elevate the standard of hockey in Mukah, placing it on par with other mainstream sports in the division.
He said the ability of Mukah hockey teams to compete up to state and national stages demonstrated the sport’s strong potential, provided development efforts are carried out in a structured and continuous manner.
Awang Yusri said this when officiating the Biennial Appreciation Ceremony of the Mukah Division Hockey Association for the 2024–2025 session, held at the Kingwood Hotel here on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Mukah Division Hockey Association Chairman Masri Usop said 2025 marked a proud milestone for local hockey, with the under-15 boys’ team emerging champions of the Sarawak State Indoor Hockey League, while the under-19 girls’ team secured the runners-up title in the same competition.
He added that several Mukah players were also selected to represent Sarawak at the National NHDP League 2025 held at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Tanjung Malim, highlighting the growing talent pool within the division.
Masri expressed appreciation to parents, teachers and the Mukah Division Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) for their continued support, noting that collective commitment remained crucial in nurturing young athletes and sustaining long-term sports development.
He hoped the achievements recorded would serve as motivation for more youths in Mukah to actively participate in hockey and pursue excellence both on and off the field.
Also present were Mukah Division Youth and Sports Ministry Assistant Officer Mohd Arbi Rosli, Assistant District Education Officer (Student Development Sector) Kueh Peng Choon, Deputy President of the Mukah Division Hockey Association Jutim Joem and Honorary Secretary Khairul Naim Samad. -UKASnews
