MAUJV Extends Aid To Flood-Hit Long Bemang Community
KUCHING: One hundred families in Long Bemang, Long Bedian District, Miri Division, received assistance from Sarawak Sabah Link Road Phase 2 (SSLR2) master contractor Maltimur Aktif Unggul JV (MAUJV) following recent flooding that affected the remote community.
The aid was delivered on Friday, to residents whose homes were inundated after continuous rainfall combined with a King tide experienced at the end of last week, on December 14.
According to a statement, situation forced more than 550 villagers to swiftly move furniture and essential items to the upper floors of their houses to avoid damage.
Long Bemang, located along the Baram River, is one of several inland settlements in northern Sarawak that face recurring floods during prolonged periods of rain.
In severe instances, floodwaters in the area have been reported to rise to levels of up to 1.8 feet, disrupting daily life and posing challenges for residents.
Project teams from MAUJV were present to distribute food supplies and other essential items to the affected families.
The handover was witnessed by village representatives Misel Wan, Vicau Lawai and Nur Melati, who received the contributions on behalf of the community.
Villagers expressed their appreciation for MAUJV’s timely assistance, describing it as a meaningful show of support during a difficult period.
They also conveyed hopes for continued cooperation and engagement with the company in the future.
The statement added that in recent weeks, MAUJV, together with its contractors, has been actively involved in assisting communities impacted by frequent flooding in areas surrounding the SSLR2 project corridor in northern Sarawak, as part of its ongoing community outreach efforts. -UKASnews
