Sarawak Islamic Complex Sri Aman Becomes New Icon For Sri Aman Division
SRI AMAN: The Sri Aman Division now boasts a new and distinctive landmark with the completion of the Sarawak Islamic Complex (KIS) Sri Aman.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said the establishment of KIS Sri Aman reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to upholding and strengthening Islam in a manner that is fair, inclusive and harmonious within the state.
He noted that the establishment of the complex is also in line with the principle of interfaith harmony, which forms a core pillar of the state’s administration.
He said this when speaking at the official opening ceremony of KIS Sri Aman here on Saturday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari further emphasised that the Sarawak Government has acted fairly in safeguarding the welfare of religious affairs and education for all communities, both Muslim and non-Muslim, living in the state.
This, he said, is evident as Sarawak remains the only state in the country to have established the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), which plays a vital role in supporting the welfare of all religious institutions as well as educational facilities across the state.
“Through UNIFOR, we have been able to channel assistance to missionary schools and National-Type Schools (SJK), in addition to providing support for the development of non-Muslim religious institutions in Sarawak.
“This clearly shows that Islam in Sarawak is not exclusive in nature, but instead is a religion that brings compassion and justice to the entire society, including non-Muslims,” he said.
For the record, the construction of the Sarawak Islamic Complex officially commenced on 29 March 2015 on a 5.7-acre site adjacent to Taman Panorama Sri Aman, with an initial project cost of RM50 million.
Also present were Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, Auditor General Dato Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) Datuk Misnu Taha, Batang Lupar Member of Parliament Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, Lingga Assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, Sri Aman Division Resident Mahra Salleh, General Manager of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, as well as other invited guests. -UKASnews
