BALINGIAN: The ‘Jualan Agro Sarawakku Sayang’ (JASS) programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak (M-FICORD), continues to benefit the rakyat by offering food supplies at more affordable prices compared to market pricing.
Balingian Assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said that JASS is a programme implemented in line with the National Food Security Policy and the National Agrofood Policy 2.0, especially in terms of affordability and food safety.
“This programme was launched on 30 August 2025 by M-FICORD Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, and is seen as a high-impact effort in helping to ease the burden of the people,” he said when officiating the programme at Anjung Selera Balingian on Monday.
The JASS programme is implemented by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) in collaboration with various departments and related agencies that offer food commodities including vegetables, fruits, chicken, eggs, fish and meat.
Through the organisation of JASS in the Balingian constituency, local residents have the opportunity to enjoy price savings of between 10 and 30 per cent compared to market prices.
The sales value is estimated at RM25,000, benefiting approximately 5,000 households.
Among its key objectives is to promote Sarawak agricultural produce, while also serving as a ‘Quick Win’ programme based on a low-cost, high-impact concept to help reduce the cost of living.
In addition, JASS enhances accessibility and availability of fresh food supplies for consumers at reasonable prices, while creating additional market opportunities for participants of the Contract Farming Programme and local entrepreneurs through direct-to-consumer sales.
The programme is also expected to contribute to an average annual increase of five per cent in sales value, in addition to promoting healthy eating habits through the local fruit consumption campaign, helping the public better appreciate the uniqueness of local agricultural produce.
