Sarawak To Set Guinness World Record Ahead Of New Year 2026
KUCHING: Sarawak is set to achieve a historic milestone on the international stage by securing a Guinness World Record (GWR) for an iconic journey across the state, further solidifying its branding as the 'Gateway to Borneo'.
The official announcement of the world record will be made during the 2026 Countdown event at the Kuching Waterfront on 31 December 2025. This achievement aligns with Sarawak’s preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and aims to elevate the state’s global profile.
Sarawak’s Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, stated that the achievement is more than just breaking a record; it reflects Sarawak’s readiness to move forward with bold ideas and high confidence as 2026 approaches.
According to the Minister, choosing New Year’s Eve as the platform for the announcement sends a clear signal of the momentum Sarawak is building in strengthening its global brand and its readiness to welcome international tourists.
The 2026 Countdown event, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, will feature a line-up of local, national, and international performances.
The celebrations will culminate in a musical fireworks display at the stroke of midnight, symbolising the start of Sarawak’s journey into the new year with ambition and pride.- UKASnews
