UNIFOR Allocation Reinforces Interfaith Harmony At SDA Batu Kawa
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen interfaith harmony through sustained support for non-Muslim places of worship, with the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Batu Kawa receiving a RM200,000 allocation from the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).
The cheque was presented by the Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, Lo Khere Chiang during a simple yet meaningful ceremony held at the SDA Batu Kawa church on Saturday, witnessed by members of the congregation and the local community.
Speaking at the event, Lo said the allocation reflects the Sarawak Government’s inclusive development approach, which places equal importance on the wellbeing of all religious communities regardless of background or belief.
He noted that support for non-Muslim houses of worship under UNIFOR goes beyond financial assistance, serving as a tangible commitment to mutual respect and shared responsibility in improving social cohesion.
He added that religious institutions play a vital role beyond spiritual guidance, often functioning as centres for community engagement, moral development and social support.
He said that strengthening their facilities and programmes contributes directly to building a more caring, united and resilient society.
The RM200,000 allocation will be utilised to enhance the church’s facilities and operations, enabling a more conducive worship environment while supporting community-based activities that encourage interaction, understanding and participation among residents in the surrounding area.
Lo also emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between the government and religious institutions, describing it as a cornerstone of Sarawak’s harmonious multi-religious landscape.
He expressed hope that such initiatives would further strengthen interfaith ties and serve as an example of unity built on respect and cooperation.
The cheque presentation highlighted Sarawak’s consistent efforts to promote peace, mutual understanding and inclusivity, reaffirming the state’s position as a model of inter-religious harmony in Malaysia. -UKASnews
