Festive Celebrations Serve As Platform To Foster Tolerance
MERADONG: Festive celebrations are not merely traditional or religious events, but also serve as an important platform to encourage tolerance, mutual understanding and harmonious relations within a multi-racial and multi-religious society.
In this regard, Meradong Assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, expressed his continued support for the organisation of community and cultural programmes by local associations, particularly those that promote unity among the multi-racial and multi-religious communities in Meradong and its surrounding areas.
“I would like to extend my appreciation for their continuous efforts in organising activities that not only preserve cultural values and traditions, but also strengthen bonds and mutual understanding among the community,” he said when delivering his speech at the Christmas Celebration organised by the Liu Kwee Tang Association of Central Sarawak Region on Saturday.
As a gesture of support, Datuk Ding also announced a Minor Rural Project (MRP) Special Grant amounting to RM5,000 to the Liu Kwee Tang Association of Central Sarawak Region to support the implementation of the association’s annual activities for 2026.
According to him, the contribution is expected to assist the association in planning and implementing more structured and impactful programmes that will benefit its members as well as the local community.
He also reaffirmed his continued commitment as a people’s representative to support associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that actively contribute towards social, cultural development and community harmony in the Meradong area. -UKASnews
