Datuk Ding Attends Gawai Antu Celebration At Rumah Dangat
BINTANGOR: A traditional Gawai Antu celebration involving approximately 10 doors of a longhouse was held at Rumah Dangat, Sungai Kawi on Saturday, with residents observing the ritual in accordance with long-established Dayak customs and practices.
Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing was present at the ceremony, regarded as one of the more important rituals to honour the spirits of ancestors and symbolises the richness of Dayak cultural heritage that continues to be preserved to this day.
In his address, Datuk Ding expressed his continued support for efforts to safeguard the customs, culture and traditions of the Dayak community to ensure they are not lost to time.
“I would like to convey my appreciation to the residents of Rumah Dangat for their commitment in preserving traditional practices that form the identity and cultural pride of the local community,” he said.
Datuk Ding added that the celebration not only serves as a platform to remember ancestral heritage, but also plays an important role in strengthening ties among longhouse residents and the surrounding community.
He noted that the event also reflects a strong spirit of unity and cooperation among the people, regardless of differences. -UKASnews
