Women As Catalysts For Community Development In Simunjan
SIMUNJAN: Women play a vital role as drivers of community development, particularly in strengthening grassroots socio-economic growth and family institutions.
Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong, Rodiyah Sapiee said, active involvement of women in community organisations is essential in creating sustainable and inclusive development at the local level.
She said the Sarawak Women’s Organisation Federation (PPWS) serves as an effective platform to unite women from diverse backgrounds while empowering them to become independent and competitive contributors to society.
“I see PPWS as a strong platform to produce capable women who can make meaningful contributions to community development,” she said when officiating the PPWS Simunjan District Family Day Programme 2026 at the PPWS Simunjan District Building here on Sunday.
Rodiyah encouraged all 27 PPWS branches in Simunjan to develop specialised products under the “One PPWS, One Product” initiative as a sustainable income-generating effort, while commending the success of the PPWS Simunjan Bakery as proof that proper planning yields positive outcomes.
She also urged members to explore local product potentials, leverage digital platforms and social media for marketing, and stay informed on available assistance such as the RM5,000 Women Empowerment Capital Grant under the Sarawak Women and Family Department (JWKS) as well as TEKUN business financing.
Rodiyah emphasised the importance of financial discipline and well-prepared proposals to ensure that any assistance received delivers long-term impact to the community.
“When women move forward with clear determination and purpose, PPWS can become a powerful catalyst for community development,” she added.
Also present were Simunjan District Officer’s representative Malisa Basmawi, PPWS Simunjan District Chairperson Mazian Khalik, Deputy Head of PBB Simunjan Branch Bojeng Ali, Penghulu Ahmad Dol Simpol and Penghulu Abang Madihie Abang Junaidi.-UKASnews
