KUCHING: The Final Move 2025: Kuching Chess Blitz Challenge successfully concluded at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak on Sunday, drawing strong participation from young chess players and reinforcing the role of mind sports in nurturing discipline and strategic thinking among youths.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Dato’ Ir. Lo Khere Chiang, who commended the organisers for their well-planned and meaningful execution of the tournament.

In his address, Dato’ Ir. Lo said chess extends beyond competition, instilling patience, discipline and strategic thinking that are valuable in daily life.

He added that the tournament also promoted values such as respect, responsibility and resilience, noting that every decision made on the chessboard mirrors choices made in life.

He further expressed encouragement over the strong participation of young players, while commending parents and guardians for their continuous support in nurturing character and maturity through positive extracurricular activities.

Dato’ Ir. Lo also recorded his appreciation to the organisers, volunteers, officials, sponsors and partners whose contributions played a vital role in strengthening grassroots chess development in Kuching.

The event concluded with a group photo session before the final round, followed by the official closing of the Final Move 2025: Kuching Chess Blitz Challenge, marking another milestone in promoting intellectual sports and youth development in the city. -UKASnews
