LUNDU: The Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Biawak, Lundu was among the focal points in Sarawak in conjunction with the Nationwide Entry Points and Main Transport Hubs Celebrations in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) which took place on Thursday.
Kuching Division Resident Dayang Joanita Awang Morshidi officiated the programme which aimed to welcome the arrival of international tourists to Malaysia in addition to introducing the VM2026 campaign as an effort to increase the number of tourists to the country.
This celebration is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (MTCP) through Tourism Malaysia, which was held simultaneously at 55 main entry points and public transport hubs nationwide, covering 13 states and three Federal Territories.
In Sarawak, ICQS Biawak was selected as one of the main locations due to its role as a strategic land entry point connecting Sarawak and Kalimantan, thus serving as a gateway for tourists to the state.
The reception also reflects the ongoing commitment to strengthening Malaysia's image as a world-class tourism destination and promoting the unique culture, natural treasures and diversity of tourism products found in Sarawak.
The Sarawak Government through relevant agencies will continue to support the implementation of VM2026 to ensure that the tourism sector continues to grow as a major contributor to the state and national economy.
Also present were Lundu District Officer Zulkarnain Ismail along with representatives of relevant government departments and agencies. -UKASnews
