Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Welcomes Move To Place Sarawak Metro As State-Owned Enterprise
KUCHING: Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap welcomed the Sarawak Government’s decision to place Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, the agency implementing the Kuching Urban Transport (KUT) project, under the Sarawak Financial Secretary (Incorporated) as a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE).
According to him, this move marks an important step towards stronger governance, clearer accountability and enhanced financial discipline in the management of a major public infrastructure project.
“It reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to ensuring that large-scale developments are delivered prudently, transparently and in the long-term interest of the people.
“Self-sustainability should protect public funds, ensure cost control and secure long-term viability without passing unnecessary burdens to future generations,” he said on Wednesday.
Wilfred stressed that proper and effective monitoring must be carried out throughout implementation to ensure that construction works, traffic management and related activities do not inconvenience the public excessively.
“I speak on behalf of the people of Kuching who will live with the daily realities of this project.
“The voices of residents, commuters and small businesses must be heard and addressed through clear coordination, timely communication and responsive mitigation measures, so that progress does not come at the expense of everyday livelihoods.
“Going forward, I will continue to advocate for transparent reporting, strict procurement standards, independent audits and continuous public engagement, so that this project delivers real and lasting benefits to the people of Kuching,” he said. -UKASnews
