UKAS The Main Bridge Between Government & Rakyat, Responsible To Ensure Accurate Information Delivery
KUCHING: In an increasingly dynamic state governance landscape, the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) is no longer just a communication agency; it has emerged as a vital 'bridge' connecting government policies with the understanding and trust of the people.
Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, stated that this role demands UKAS to always be at the forefront in ensuring every government effort, policy, and initiative is not only delivered accurately but is also truly understood and felt by the citizens.
According to him, in the context of modern government delivery, UKAS plays a much larger function than mere information dissemination; it acts as a strategic connector building a two-way communication network between the government, agencies, and the community at the grassroots level.
"While the government is actively building 12 physical bridges worth RM6 billion across Sarawak, the reality is that there is another bridge that is far more important — UKAS as the 'bridge' between the government and the people, and that is the role of UKAS.
"You (UKAS) are the 'face' and 'visual' of government delivery, and the primary link between the government and the people. Therefore, this role is not just about conveying information, but ensuring every government effort and initiative can be highlighted clearly and effectively," he said during the UKAS 2026 Aidilfitri Ramah Tamah at UKAS Headquarters on Thursday.
He added that UKAS personnel must always be ready to re-evaluate their work approach, strengthen strategies, and improve their personal capabilities from time to time to remain relevant in a constantly changing communication landscape.
He explained that this year is an 'examination year' as emphasised by the Premier of Sarawak, thereby demanding a higher level of preparedness and delivery effectiveness.
“You (UKAS) are not just performing duties as public communication representatives, but as individuals shouldering a greater responsibility. This is a 'moral responsibility' to ensure every piece of information is delivered accurately and, at the same time, to build a strong network between the community, the government, and every agency involved,” he added.
Also present to enliven the event were the Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee, UKAS Director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, and UKAS staff at the headquarters. — UKASnews
