KUCHING: The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, paid a visit to the Sarawak Flood Operations Room at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya, this afternoon.
The visit at 4:30 pm provides a first-hand look at the operations of the centre and to receive the latest briefing on the flood situation currently affecting several parts of Sarawak.
Upon arrival, the Sarawak Governor and his wife were received by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah were given a comprehensive briefing on the current situation.
This included reports that the number of affected victims has reached 3,019 people across 13 districts, with 40 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) opened across the state.
Their Excellencies expressed their deep concern for the welfare of the victims and the impact this disaster has had on the people of Sarawak.
During the visit, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi emphasised that a comprehensive, effective, and strategic flood mitigation plan is essential.
He noted that such measures are vital not only during the Northeast Monsoon season but as a long-term solution for the whole of Sarawak.
In his welcoming remarks, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas described the visit as a historic milestone, noting it was the first time a Governor and his spouse had visited the operations centre.
He expressed his sincere gratitude for the Royal concern shown towards the plight of the flood victims.
The Governor reaffirmed that the well-being of the people remains the utmost priority. He expressed his hope that all agencies would continue to strengthen their cooperation and coordination to ensure the impact of the disaster is minimised, particularly regarding the safety of lives and public welfare.
Also present during the meeting were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) and SDMC Deputy Chairman, Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua; Director of the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), and Head of the SDMC Secretariat, Abdul Wahab Rahim, and other officials. - UKASnews
