KUCHING: The Sarawak Government’s revenue for 2025 has been revised to RM13.5 billion following the closure of the state government’s accounts on 31 December last year.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the figure is higher than the RM13.01 billion announced earlier during the tabling of the Sarawak Budget 2026 at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN).
“In the previous budget, I mentioned RM13.01 billion as Sarawak’s revenue for 2025.
“However, when the accounts were closed in December, the actual revenue was found to have increased, with total state revenue rising to RM13.5 billion, showing an additional increase,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after the launch and official opening ceremony of the Free School Bus Programme and Smart Classroom initiative at SJK Chuang Hua 6 here on Monday.
Earlier, in his speech, the Sarawak Premier said that this increase further strengthens the state’s revenue, enabling it to better support the people, particularly school students, by improving access to learning.
He also gave an assurance that additional allocations would be provided for the pilot Free School Bus Programme currently implemented along Jalan Stapok, with plans to expand it to other school areas.
As such, he expressed hope that Sarawak’s political landscape would remain stable so that continued cooperation and the sharing of available revenue could be sustained for the common good.
“If Sarawak were to become chaotic, even small issues could turn into major problems due to a lack of political stability, to the extent that programmes such as the Free School Bus initiative could not be carried out.
“Sarawakians must safeguard Sarawak so that we can manage our own state without relying too heavily on others. It begins with us and how we manage our economy as well as our society,” he said.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Chairman of the School Board of Governors Dato Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, Chairman of the Free School Bus Programme See Chee How, as well as other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
