SUKSAR IV Preparations Running Smoothly, Athlete Welfare A Priority
KUCHING: The Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) IV, scheduled to take place from 5 to 8 February 2026, has entered a phase of intensive preparations with special emphasis on athlete welfare, smooth operations and coordination between implementing agencies.
The matter was discussed at the SUKSAR IV Main Committee Meeting at the Malaysia Sports (SUKMA) Meeting Room, Baitulmakmur II Building, on Thursday, which was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak and SUKSAR IV Chairman, Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, to detail all the work throughout the sports event.
The SUKSAR IV opening ceremony will be held in Betong on 5 February, while the closing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Sri Aman on 8 February, where Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, is expected to attend as the guest of honour.
A total of 11 sports will be contested throughout SUKSAR IV, involving several competition locations in Betong and Sri Aman.
Four events will take place in Betong, namely weightlifting at Dewan Panglima Rentap, Betong; cycling at Medan and the Pan Borneo Highway in Betong; netball at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan, Betong and taekwondo at Dewan SJK (C) Chung Hua, Betong.
Meanwhile, seven other sports will be held in Sri Aman, namely basketball (Mini Stadium of the Sri Aman District Council), karate (Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station Multipurpose Hall), petanque (Petanque Arena, Sri Aman Sports Complex), table tennis (Sri Aman Civic Hall), sepak takraw (RPR Taman Sentosa Indah Futsal Court), softball (Sri Aman Sports Complex Football Field) and boxing (Sri Aman Sports Complex Indoor Stadium).
Among the main focus discussed in the meeting included the allocation of special tasks to the agencies involved and related committees to ensure that the implementation of the competition runs smoothly, orderly and adheres to the set timeline.
The financial allocation aspect was also given attention, particularly involving the participant budget, the welfare of athletes and staff, as well as logistical requirements throughout SUKSAR IV.
In the meantime, the provision of comfortable accommodation for athletes was also emphasized, including efforts to upgrade facilities at the accommodation location to ensure the comfort and performance of athletes are at an optimal level.
The organisation of SUKSAR IV is expected to be an important platform in unearthing local sports talents, strengthening youth unity and promoting the development of high-performance sports in Sarawak.- UKASnews
