Kuching Car Free Morning To Be Expanded To Petrajaya, Benefiting More City Residents
KUCHING: The Kuching Car Free Morning programme is set to expand into the Petrajaya district as part of an initiative by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) to provide more urban residents with the opportunity to enjoy healthy recreational activities in a safe and inclusive environment.
DBKU Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman stated that the planning for a new route in Petrajaya follows the consistently positive public response to the Kuching Car Free Morning events since their inception in 2021.
“Kuching Car Free Morning is now entering its fifth year of organisation and, because of that, we have made a further plan to provide another route for Car Free Morning located in Petrajaya," the Mayor remarked.
"A study has been conducted and the route has been identified so that the citizens over there, in Petrajaya, will also be able to enjoy this Car Free Morning.”
The Mayor shared these details when met after the flag-off ceremony for the Kuching Car Free Morning and the launch of the DBKU 2026 Calendar of Events at Padang Merdeka on Sunday.
He highlighted that surveys and public feedback revealed a strong demand for the programme among Petrajaya locals.
Dato Hilmy noted that should all planning proceed smoothly, the implementation of the Kuching Car Free Morning in Petrajaya is expected to commence in April or May of this year.
He added that the Petrajaya events are proposed to be held on the second Sunday of every month, serving as a complement to the existing sessions in the Kuching city centre which take place on the first and third Sundays.
The DBKU Mayor further emphasised that the expansion of the programme does not only highlight aspects of recreation and health, but also plays a role in strengthening social interaction and the spirit of togetherness among the community. - UKASnews
