SeDidik Continues To Strengthen Early Childhood Education In Sarawak
KUCHING: SeDidik is continuing to make significant strides in empowering early childhood education across Sarawak by expanding preschool access, enhancing teacher quality, and integrating digital technology for early screening and intervention, in line with the state's human capital development aspirations.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, explained that SeDidik has successfully established itself as a cornerstone of the state's early childhood education agenda, particularly in ensuring comprehensive educational access for children throughout Sarawak.
"The other areas we emphasise are participation, equity, and inclusivity. I am pleased to say that SeDidik has successfully achieved all three. SeDidik assists other kindergarten and early childhood providers to ensure that access to early education for Sarawakian children has reached 98 per cent," she said during a SeDidik Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday.
Dato Sri Fatimah added that, alongside access and quality, the principles of inclusivity and fairness remain the core of SeDidik’s educational programmes.
She stressed that every child, regardless of background or ability, must be given an equal opportunity to develop to their full potential.
"Regarding quality, we have achieved our goal of ensuring all SeDidik teachers are qualified and certified. One hundred per cent of SeDidik teachers now hold at least a diploma in early childhood education. Some have since obtained bachelor's degrees, while others hold equivalent professional qualifications," she explained.
She further noted that this target was fully met by the end of 2025, including teachers who underwent in-service diploma programmes.
"We reached this milestone at the end of 2025. We are now proud to state that every SeDidik teacher is qualified, with a minimum requirement of a diploma. This represents another significant achievement for the organisation," she added.
Furthermore, Dato Sri Fatimah welcomed the implementation of the Digital Development Screening Tool (TOY8) programme.
This initiative is expected to strengthen developmental screening and provide more comprehensive early intervention for children.
Also in attendance were Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus, and General Manager of SeDidik, Ayub Dahari. -UKASnews
