KUCHING: The Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE) and the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia (IIAM) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, marking a key step in efforts to strengthen internal audit capabilities in Sarawak.
This strategic partnership establishes SCOPE as a training provider for the promotion and implementation of the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) professional qualification.
This initiative provides wider opportunities for public sector officers, government-linked companies (GLCs) and professionals in the state to obtain international-standard internal audit certification.
The MoU exchange ceremony emphasised the joint commitment of both parties in developing a competent internal auditor talent pipeline, in line with the aspiration to strengthen good governance, accountability and sustainable organisational performance in Sarawak.
Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) Datu Hii Chang Kee who represented Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki was present to witness the ceremony.
Meanwhile, IIAM Vice President Derek Lee Siew Weng said the MoU is timely to assist the Sarawak Government through SCOPE’s support.
“The programme consists of three parts and tuition classes will be held in Sarawak, allowing candidates to study physically rather than online.
"The first group consists of over 20 candidates, and we hope the number will increase in the future," he said when met by the media after the ceremony here on Friday.
SCOPE Chief Executive Officer Joseph Lim explained that the programme will begin implementation in April this year.
"SCOPE will provide support and facilities including basic support, student support, and other needs. Classes will be conducted in a hybrid, physical and online format.
"In the future, we will explore several training programmes for working adults to ensure they are competent in terms of knowledge in internal audit. We will prioritise training related to internal audit, risk, governance and related areas," he explained. -UKASnews
