KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) made history when it was crowned the First Place Winner of the Best Higher Education Institution (HEI) Award 2025, a prestigious national recognition awarded by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
According to a statement by the university, the award recognizes UNIMAS’ excellence in driving digital entrepreneurship and innovation in higher education, in line with the country’s digital economy agenda.
“This success is a continuation of the university’s excellent achievements in 2024 when UNIMAS achieved 100 per cent fulfillment of the Entrepreneurship Key Performance Indicators (KPI) set by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT),” it said on Monday.
UNIMAS further stated that this success was driven by the maturity of the UNIMAS Student and Alumni Affairs (HEPA) entrepreneurial ecosystem, which is implemented through structured governance, high-impact programs and an integrated strategic direction.
“Emphasis is placed on digital marketing, the use of data in decision-making, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to equip students with real digital business skills.
“Through experiential learning and strategic collaboration with industry, UNIMAS has succeeded in producing graduates who have an entrepreneurial mindset, relevant digital skills, and the ability to scale businesses sustainably,” the statement said.
This recognition reflects the commitment of all UNIMAS staff, especially the facilitators and academics who play a key role in realising the institution's goals for high-impact student achievement.
The university underscored its commitment to empowering the future generation of entrepreneurs through an integrated ecosystem based on digital transformation, AI innovation, and sustainable business growth, thus strengthening the marketability of graduates and its impact at the national level. -UKASnews
