Orphans Celebrated, Gong Xi Raya Honours Values Of Compassion
MIRI: The presence of some 71 children from the Sarawak Orphans Welfare Board (PERYATIM) further enlivened the organisation of the Gong Xi Raya Buffet Preview which combined elements of Chinese New Year culture and the spirit of Ramadan at a hotel here.
The event reflected the hospitality sector's continued commitment to caring for the welfare of the community, especially the underprivileged, in line with the spirit of compassion and unity that was highlighted.
Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that the initiative implemented by Pullman Miri Waterfront should be followed as an example by other corporate entities because it prioritises social responsibility, especially towards those with special needs.
“Every time a festival is organised, Pullman Miri Waterfront never forgets children from welfare homes and those with special needs.
“Such efforts mean a lot because they make them feel valued and part of the community,” he said when speaking at the event on Monday.
The Senadin Assemblyman stressed that the compassion-based approach is in line with the Sarawak Government’s aspiration to build a caring and inclusive society, thus calling on more organisations to emulate this noble effort, especially during the festive season.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Lee also emphasised Sarawak’s uniqueness as a state known for its harmony and mutual respect among its multiethnic, religious and cultural communities.
“In Sarawak, a festival does not only belong to one race, but is celebrated by the entire community. Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak and Christmas are celebrated as one big family,” he said.
Also present was Miri City Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad, along with representatives from Pullman Miri Waterfront and other guests. -UKASnews
