New Lighting At Taman Sahabat Adds Spark To Chinese New Year Celebrations
KUCHING: The new lighting ceremony at Taman Sahabat marks the completion of the final phase of the park's upgrading work, making it brighter and more cheerful for the convenience of the public.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the project involved rewiring and improving the lighting system, including decorative lights, to create a safer and more attractive atmosphere.
According to him, the effort is in line with MBKS’ commitment to continue improving public facilities in all parks under its administration.
"As promised to the community, we will continue to improve public spaces in all parks in Kuching to ensure a more comfortable environment for recreational activities," he said.
He said this when met by reporters while attending the Switching On Decorative Lighting 2026 ceremony in conjunction with Chinese New Year at Taman Sahabat Kuching on Friday.
The ceremony was also witnessed by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian and guests present.
Meanwhile, Taman Sahabat is also the location for the Chinese New Year Bazaar, which features about 36 to 40 stalls with a variety of creative food options.
He informed that the bazaar is the third one organised by MBKS this year after Taman Kenyalang, while another will be held in Pending, thus expanding the venues to three locations.
He added that each location has its own attractions and can attract different groups of visitors to enliven the festive celebration.
The public is also encouraged to stop by after recreation to enjoy the atmosphere and excitement provided in conjunction with Chinese New Year.-UKASnews
