Sarawak Auditors Adopt Global Standards In Performance Management
KUCHING: In a move to modernise the state’s civil service, the Sarawak Government has launched a high-level strategic initiative aimed at revolutionising how public sector performance is measured and audited.
A select group of Sarawak Scorecard Auditors recently completed an intensive professional development programme designed to align local auditing practices with international benchmarks.
Organised by the Sarawak Transformation and Innovation Unit (STIU), the course underscores the government’s broader commitment to digital transformation and results-based management.
The three-day session, held from 10 to 12 February 2026, brought together 20 specialist auditors to master the complexities of outcome-based Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the Balanced Scorecard methodology.
The programme was delivered by The KPI Institute, an esteemed European-based research centre regarded as the global authority on performance measurement.
This marks the first official collaboration between the Sarawak Government and the Institute, signalling a strategic shift towards adopting world-class standards in public accountability.
Throughout the training, participants were equipped with the tools to scrutinise the integrity of performance data and the robustness of measurement formulas.
By focusing on data transparency and reliability, the auditors are now better prepared to ensure that departmental targets are not only met but are also deeply aligned with the state’s overarching development plans and strategic objectives.
Beyond mere compliance, the initiative seeks to foster a "high-impact culture" within the public sector.
Auditors were trained to conduct objective, evidence-based assessments of "Performance Management Maturity," a process intended to produce findings that drive continuous improvement rather than simple box-ticking exercises.
As Sarawak continues its push towards a more innovative and digitally-integrated administration, the empowerment of its Scorecard Auditors ensures that the state’s performance framework remains both transparent and internationally credible.
This professionalisation of the auditing process is expected to significantly enhance organisational accountability across all government agencies.-UKASnews
