MIRI: The Chinese New Year Open House at the Miri Civic Hall highlights the spirit of unity and harmony among the multi-racial community that has long been the identity of Sarawak.
The ceremony, organised by Piasau Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, is not just a celebration, but rather a symbol of cultural openness and togetherness of the people in an atmosphere full of goodwill.
According to him, the open house culture practiced in this state shows the inclusive leadership approach and social maturity of the community which always makes tolerance between races and religions the basis of living together.
"In Sarawak, we do not just celebrate our own festivals, but share joy together. This is the strength and uniqueness of this state," he said on Saturday.
He added that this time's event is more meaningful because it is held on the fifth day of Chinese New Year and at the same time is brightened by the atmosphere of breaking the fast with the Muslim community, thus showing the harmony between religions that continues to be maintained.
He added that the selection of the date provided an opportunity for more people to attend and together experience the festive season in a harmonious atmosphere.
He also hoped that entering the Year of the Horse would bring continued prosperity and well-being to the people of Sarawak, in line with efforts to ensure inclusive development and improve the living standards of the community.
The ceremony was also attended by community leaders, representatives of non-governmental organisations and local residents who enlivened the celebration in a friendly atmosphere full of family spirit. -UKASnews
