A Century of Service — Dato Sri Bo’ Tajang Laing Turns 100
KUCHING: Prominent Orang Ulu leader Dato Sri Bo’ Tajang Laing celebrated his 100th birthday on 14 February 2026, marking a century shaped by public service, grassroots leadership and an unwavering dedication to community development.
Family members, friends and community representatives gathered to honour the centenarian, whose decades of contribution have left a lasting imprint on both his community and long-time associates.
Born in 1926, Dato Sri Bo’ Tajang has witnessed Malaysia’s transformation firsthand, from the hurdles of the pre-independence era to his contribution in matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Across changing political landscapes and shifting generations, he has remained a resolute advocate for rural development and equal opportunity, firmly espousing that education is the cornerstone of a prosperous future.
Over the years, the elder statesman received numerous honours in recognition of his service. Yet those closest to him say he never measured success by accolades, but by the tangible progress of the communities and villages he supported.
During the celebration, he spoke briefly, offering a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, Datin Sri Devong who passed away in April last year. He also expressed gratitude to the many individuals who stood beside him throughout the decades.
Surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dato Sri Bo’ Tajang’s 100th birthday was more than a personal milestone. It stood as a living testament to a lifetime devoted to service and to a legacy that continues to inspire generations to come.
