Sarawak's Chinese New Year Celebration Reflects Community Harmony
KUCHING: Sarawak's Chinese New Year celebration continues to reflect the harmony and unity of the multi-racial and multi-religious communities in the state.
Minister of National Unity Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kanowit, said that the organisation of such events provides a space for interaction and integration between communities.
"Today is very unique in Sarawak. Every time an event like this is held, we can see various ethnic groups involved," he said.
He said this when met by reporters during the Sarawak-level Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 Open House at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday.
Present to enliven the event were the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
According to Dato Sri Aaron Ago, the celebration is in line with the aspirations of the Ministry of National Unity to provide a platform that brings the community together in an atmosphere of goodwill.
“In Sarawak, I see, this is a very lively situation where all communities are welcomed, regardless of race and religion,” he said.
Also present during the open house were Deputy Prime Ministe, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof with his wife Datin Amar Ruziah Mohd Tahir, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah with his wife Datin Amar Doreen Mayang, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian with his wife Datin Amar Enn Ong Siok Ean, Sarawak Cabinet Ministers, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki with his wife Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang, Deputy Ministers of the Sarawak Government and heads of departments.- UKASnews
