Over 2,000 Attend Datuk Michael Tiang’s Open House, Shares Updates On Sibu Infrastructure Projects
SIBU: More than 2,000 visitors attended the Chinese New Year Open House hosted by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, held at the Uni-City Commercial Centre along Jalan Wawasan on Wednesday.
Datuk Michael Tiang said the event, organised at Uni-City for the first time, received an encouraging response, reflecting the strong spirit of unity among Sibu’s multi-ethnic community.
“As of this morning alone, more than 2,000 visitors have attended. I wish everyone a Happy Year of the Horse and pray for continued health, strength and prosperity,” he told reporters.
In addition to celebrating the festive occasion, he also shared updates on several key development projects in the Pelawan area, describing them as aligned with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) aimed at transforming Sarawak into a developed state by 2030.
Among the main projects highlighted was the widening of Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah into a dual carriageway, which is scheduled for full completion in May.
He said the project is expected to improve traffic flow and enhance road user comfort in the area.
He further informed that upgrading works on Jalan Ling Kai Cheng have been fully completed, while several improvement measures are being planned in the Sungai Merah area, including along Jalan Teng Chin Hua, following feedback from nearby churches and schools.
“These measures include redesigning junctions and adjusting access points to improve traffic flow and enhance safety, particularly for students of SMK Bandar Sibu,” he said.
Responding to claims that the implementation of the projects is linked to the upcoming state election, he stressed that development efforts have been carried out consistently since the beginning of his term in office.
“I have never stopped working since the first day I was elected. Five years is a short period, and throughout that time we have continued to plan and implement development initiatives for the progress of Sibu,” he said.
He expressed hope that Sarawakians returning from abroad would be able to witness the positive changes in their hometowns and continue to share their views to help shape future development plans. -UKASnews
