Visiting Tradition Strengthens Unity In Simanggang
SRI AMAN: The spirit of Chinese New Year continued to be celebrated in a warm and harmonious atmosphere as the Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, carried out a series of visits to Pantu and Sri Aman in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2026.
On the first day of the celebration, Datuk Francis, who is also the Simanggang Assemblyman, began his late afternoon visits by calling on the family of Phang Hoi Phin, better known as Manang Kupak, at Rapak, Pantu.
He then proceeded to the residence of Penghulu Lee Thong Sen at Lachau Market, Pantu, before concluding the first day’s programme by attending a Chinese New Year Family Dinner at his residence along Jalan Tini, Simanggang town.
On the second day, he and his entourage attended the Chinese New Year 2026 Open House programme at the residence of Kapitan Kiew Sii Ted at Lorong 1, Jalan Pasir, Simanggang town.
The visit continued to the homes of Kapitan Kang Tai Hing, Penghulu Kang Tai Kong and Ling Yu Kong in the Pasir Panas area before calling on Datuk Tan Chong Meng at Jalan Main Bazaar.
Datuk Francis also visited Councillor Wong Yii Hong at Kampung Kejatau before concluding the series of visits at the residence of Kapitan Chin Chong Miaw at Sabu Market.
Meanwhile, he emphasised that the celebration of Chinese New Year not only strengthens family ties but also reinforces the spirit of goodwill among the multi-racial community in the Sri Aman area.
“Chinese New Year not only brings families closer together but also strengthens the spirit of goodwill among the multi-racial community in Sri Aman.
“Visiting traditions such as these symbolise the harmony we collectively enjoy and serve as the foundation for building a stronger community,” he said.
He also called on the younger generation to continue preserving the values of unity and to appreciate the cultural diversity that remains one of the state’s greatest strengths. -UKASnews
