Higher Level Of Transparency Needed To Support Development Agenda
KUCHING: The current administrative environment in Sarawak demands a higher level of transparency, particularly in supporting the development agenda.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya called for higher levels of transparency, especially in the implementation of rural development projects, digital transformation initiatives and the management of aid and allocations to communities.
“The dissemination of information through local social media often occurs rapidly, and any issues related to project delays, quality of work, license approval or contract award can shape public perception in a short period of time.
“The Integrity Unit is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the procurement process, contractor appointment, project progress and financial management through periodic reviews, compliance audits and risk analysis.
“Any findings or weaknesses identified must be reported to top management along with appropriate corrective action recommendations,” he said.
He said this during his speech when officiating the Meeting of the Head of the Sarawak Integrity Unit Agencies held here on Tuesday.
Datuk Dr Juanda also noted that the Ombudsman played a key role in examining and addressing issues related to maladministration such as unreasonable delays, unfair decisions, failure to comply with procedures or inappropriate treatment of the people.
According to him, the Integrity Unit and the Certified Integrity Officer (CeIO) should work closely with the Ombudsman in identifying systemic issues that have the potential to affect service delivery.
“CeIOs at the agency level need to be sensitive to early signs of maladministration and take proactive steps to advise management so that corrections are made before complaints escalate to a more serious level.
He stressed that this approach will ensure the delivery of more efficient, fair and quality services to the people. -UKASnews
