Youth Development, Community Activities Continue To Be Sarawak's Priority
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen its commitment to youth development and strengthening community activities through continued support for the implementation of the 2026 SABERKAS Jerayawara Bubur Lambuk Programme which will be held in 73 locations throughout the state during Ramadan.
The launching ceremony of the 2026 SABERKAS Jerayawara Bubur Lambuk was officiated by the Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at the i-CATS University College, here on Tuesday.
In his speech, he stressed that the Sarawak Government always supports youth initiatives that have a direct impact on the community, including volunteering and welfare programmes during Ramadan.
According to him, the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) as one of the largest youth organisations in Sarawak organises more than 300 programmes every year covering leadership development, sports, education and community activities.
“Platforms like this are very important in building character, identity and instilling a spirit of volunteerism among youth. The state government will continue to work with higher learning institutions to ensure that the youth development agenda is implemented comprehensively and with high impact,” he said.
The SABERKAS President also emphasised that the organisation’s strength lies in its structured management system and ability to generate its own funds, thus enabling the implementation of programmes to be implemented consistently without being overly dependent on external assistance.
“SABERKAS is one of the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that Sarawak is proud of. With strategic management and investment, we are able to implement hundreds of programmes every year for the benefit of youth and the community,” he added.
He added that the SABERKAS Prihatin initiative, which was established during the COVID-19 pandemic, proves the compassion and readiness of its members in helping the community when facing disasters such as floods and fires.
At the same event, Dato Sri Abdul Karim also announced a total contribution of RM21,000 to the SABERKAS Club of Kolej Universiti i-CATS to strengthen the implementation of student activities, in addition to an additional RM10,000 to the institution’s Student Representative Council (MPP) to support the development of undergraduate programmes.
This year's Jerayawara Bubur Lambuk marks its 22nd edition of its implementation with the distribution of approximately 1,000 packets of bubur lambuk at the launch ceremony alone before being expanded to 73 villages and towns throughout Sarawak throughout Ramadan.
Also present were the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) and Vice President of SABERKAS Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Vice Chancellor of i-CATS University College Professor Emeritus Datuk Ts. Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, leadership of SABERKAS, EXCOs, heads of departments and university management. -UKASnews
