KPWK & Normah Organise ‘Senior Citizen – We CARE For You’ Programme
KUCHING: The Ministry for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) in collaboration with Normah Medical Specialist Centre will organise a community programme themed ‘Senior Citizen – We CARE For You’ on 4 April 2026 at Wisma Sabati as part of efforts to strengthen the healthy and active ageing agenda in the state.
The programme, which is expected to bring together about 300 senior citizens from Kuching and surrounding areas, reflects the integrated commitment between the government and the private health sector in ensuring that the well-being of this group continues to be maintained comprehensively.
The programme coordination meeting was chaired by KPWK Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah on Wednesday who emphasised the importance of a holistic approach in addressing the challenges of an ageing population.
According to her, the main aspects that need to be focused on include access to accurate health information, continuous community support and the social and emotional empowerment of senior citizens.
“The organisation of this programme aims to help senior citizens experience the ageing process with more dignity, confidence and independence through the delivery of knowledge, early intervention and a more structured support network,” she said.
Among the main contents include interactive health talks by medical experts, sharing sessions on healthcare and mental wellbeing, in addition to the provision of various service stalls offering health screenings, consultations and information on facilities and assistance for senior citizens.
Also present at the meeting were KPWK Permanent Secretary Colliner Gohe @ Nur Alina Abdullah, KPWK Deputy Permanent Secretary Kathreen Lalai Eddie Saga, Head of Corporate Affairs and Business Development of Normah Medical Specialist Centre and representatives of several pensioner associations including the Sarawak Government Pensioners Association, the Sarawak 3S Original Police Pensioners Welfare Association, the Sarawak Teachers Pensioners Association and the Sarawak Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association.
This initiative is in line with the state government’s aspirations to strengthen the community support system and expand strategic collaboration in ensuring that the welfare of senior citizens continues to be the main agenda of Sarawak’s social development. -UKASnews
