KUCHING: No arrests of Muslims in Sarawak who are not fasting have been recorded so far, which is the 11th day of the month of Ramadan.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Project Coordinator for the Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that this shows that Muslims in Sarawak are complying with the religious obligation to fast.
"For those who cannot fast for certain reasons, they are advised not to eat in crowded areas," he said when met by reporters after the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Bubur Pedas Distribution Ceremony at the BGS River Bank, Kampung Sourabaya Ulu on Sunday.
Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman said that his party, through Islamic agencies, also often advises Sarawak Muslims to fulfill their obligation to fast.
He added that a monitoring and enforcement team has also been mobilised from time to time in an effort to enforce the obligation.
In another development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman advised Sarawakians in the Middle East to remain cautious, always maintain personal safety and obtain the latest information from mass media channels in the countries involved.
This is following the outbreak of war involving the United States-Israel and Iran which also involves several countries in the Middle East such as Qatar, Egypt, Bahrain and countries that have been affected.
"We ensure that Sarawakians in the Middle East take precautions and always be careful because we are not sure whether the situation is getting worse or can be overcome immediately.
"However, we pray that this situation will subside and this war can be stopped immediately," he said. -UKASnews
