Regatta Betong 2026 Strengthened Through Close Coordination Among Organising Committee
BETONG: Preparations for the organisation of Regatta Betong 2026 are being further reinforced through the Regatta Betong 2026 Coordination Meeting No. 4/2026, which was held at the Meeting Room of the Betong District Office.
The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, who is also the Layar Assemblyman, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
During the meeting, he emphasised the importance of close cooperation among all agencies involved to ensure the smooth organisation of the prestigious water sports event.
He explained that the patron of the Regatta Betong 2026 Committee is Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, assisted by Betong Member of Parliament, Dato Dr Richard Rapu, as well as himself.
According to him, integrated commitment from all parties is essential to ensure that Regatta Betong 2026 can be organised in a more systematic manner while also attracting visitors from within and outside the area.
“The cooperation of all parties is crucial to ensure that the organisation of Regatta Betong 2026 not only runs smoothly but is also able to attract a large number of visitors, thereby stimulating the local economy in the Betong Division,” he said when chairing the meeting on Monday.
Regatta Betong is among the highly anticipated annual water sports and tourism events, while also serving as a platform to strengthen community ties and promote the potential of local tourism.
The meeting also discussed various aspects of coordination, including event management, safety, infrastructure facilities, logistics and promotional efforts to ensure that the organisation of Regatta Betong 2026 proceeds in a more organised and impactful manner.
Also involved in the organising committee are representatives from various agencies, including the Betong Resident’s Office, Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), the Betong, Spaoh and Debak District Offices, the Sarawak Rivers Board, the Public Works Department (JKR), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Betong District Council, the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the Department of Agriculture, as well as several security agencies and local community representatives.
It is hoped that this continuous coordination will ensure that Regatta Betong 2026 will be organised in a more vibrant manner while delivering positive impacts on economic development and the tourism sector in Betong Division. -UKASnews
