KUCHING: A total of 37 orphans under the Sarawak Orphan Children Welfare Board (PERYATIM) were celebrated at a breaking-of-fast event organised by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), which also saw the presentation of a RM10,000 contribution to the welfare institution witnessed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg on Thursday.

The contribution will help support the operational costs of the welfare institution.

In addition, the PERYATIM children present also received ‘duit raya’ as a gesture of care and support in conjunction with the month of Ramadan and the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

The contribution was presented by the SMA General Manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng and witnessed by the Premier of Sarawak.

Following the handover ceremony, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari and SMA staff listened to the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Bilal Ustaz Muhamad Addaha Zaidi while waiting for the breaking of fast.

After breaking fast, he joined SMA staff in performing the Maghrib prayer followed by the Isyak and Tarawih prayers in congregation before the event ended with a moreh meal.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and PERYATIM Chief Executive Officer Siti Hatizah Abang Sebit. -UKASnews
