Mosques & Surau To Serve As Hubs For Ummah Development
LAWAS: Mosques and surau need to be strengthened as centres for community development, serving not only as places of worship but also as platforms for social unity and discussions on religious, welfare and well-being matters.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said mosques and surau must adopt a more proactive approach to address current challenges including advancements in digital technology.
He noted that while digital technology and platforms can serve beneficial purposes, society must be alert to the dissemination of beliefs or ideologies that are contrary to religious teachings.
“In this digital era, we must carefully evaluate every piece of information to avoid being influenced by matters that could disrupt social harmony and religious values,” he said.
He made the remarks while officiating the Lawas Muslim Charitable Trust (LAKHIL) contribution ceremony to the chairmen, imams and bilals of mosques and surau in the Lawas district at Masjid Darul Ma’mur on Monday.
The event involved representatives from 15 mosques, 31 surau and 65 community leaders across the entire Lawas district.
He stressed that in the context of Sarawak’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, mosques and surau still serve as key venues for consultation and promoting the welfare of the community.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah also encouraged youth participation in mosque management including taking on roles as imams, bilals and administrators to nurture the next generation of community leaders.
He emphasised the significance of effective and systematic mosque management, encompassing administrative and financial aspects as well as programmes that deliver lasting benefits to society. -UKASnews
