Aidilfitri 2026: Modest Yet Deeply Rooted In Family Values
KUCHING: This year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations are being observed with a sense of modesty, yet remain vibrant as the community continues to prioritise family values and togetherness over material luxury.
A survey by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) on Friday revealed that the public is increasingly inclined toward prudent and planned preparations in light of the current economic climate, all without compromising the true meaning of Aidilfitri.
A strategy of spending wisely and preparing in stages has become the preferred choice, effectively helping to reduce financial pressure on families.
Salleh Mustapa, a 65-year-old retiree, shared that he has taken steps to save by purchasing essentials gradually.
"This year’s Raya preparations are modest due to the uncertain economic situation. I buy what is necessary little by little, according to my means," he said.
Echoing this sentiment, 47-year-old Nur Safina Abdullah acknowledged that rising costs have impacted this year's preparations.
"There are certainly challenges regarding costs, and preparations this year feel different compared to last. However, we still gather as a family to strengthen our bonds," she remarked.
Meanwhile, Jazol Kipli, 62, noted that the festive spirit of Aidilfitri is still very much alive, particularly in village areas through community involvement.
"Even though preparations are simple, the atmosphere in the kampung remains lively with various community activities. Hari Raya is the time for us to gather with family and relatives," he said.
Overall, Aidilfitri this year demonstrates a society that is adept at balancing simplicity with celebration, ensuring that family values remain the core of the festivities. — UKASnews
