Astana Sarawak Draws Crowd, More Than 20,000 Visitors Celebrate Aidilfitri Open House
KUCHING: The 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House hosted by the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, at Astana Sarawak on the first day of Syawal created an extraordinary atmosphere as it welcomed more than 20,000 visitors from various ethnic groups and all walks of life.
Although the event officially began at 10 am, the excitement among the public was evident as people started arriving at the Astana Sarawak grounds as early as 8.30 am to celebrate Aidilfitri together in a warm and harmonious setting.
This remarkable turnout once again demonstrates that the tradition of hosting open houses remains relevant as a platform that brings people together, while fostering goodwill and a strong sense of togetherness among Sarawak’s multi-ethnic communities.
Earlier, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, graciously received visits from Sarawak leaders and distinguished guests.
Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof; Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, ministers from both the Sarawak and Federal Cabinets, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, deputy ministers, heads of departments, as well as other distinguished guests.
Later in the afternoon, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah also took time to mingle with visitors, further adding to the festive spirit of the celebration.
The event not only served as an occasion to celebrate Aidilfitri, but also acted as a bridge that strengthens ties between leaders and the people in a warm and cordial atmosphere.-UKASnews
