Aidilfitri More Meaningful, Lubok Nibong Residents Enjoy Electricity After 40 Years
MARUDI: This year's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration carries a profound meaning for the residents of Kampung Seberang Lubok Nibong as they finally enjoy electricity supply after a wait of over 40 years.
The joy was reflected during the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri held on Sunday, as the village atmosphere—which previously went dark at night—is now illuminated by electric lights, giving a new lease of life to the residents' daily activities.
The event, organised by the Kampung Seberang Lubok Nibong JKKK, was graced by the presence of the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) and Mulu Assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala.
In his speech, he described the connection of electricity to the village as a major achievement that brings a direct impact to the residents' wellbeing.
“After more than four decades, residents can finally enjoy this basic amenity. It not only improves the quality of life but also opens up more development opportunities in the future,” he said.
According to him, this facility also helps reduce the burden of the cost of living, considering that residents previously relied on fuel to run power generators.
At the same time, he emphasised that Aidilfitri visits such as this serve as an important platform to reach out to the people and strengthen the ties between leaders and the local community.
He also characterised Kampung Seberang Lubok Nibong as unique for being the only Muslim village within the Mulu constituency, thereby reflecting the harmony of the multi-ethnic society in Sarawak. – UKASnews
