KMKK: The Backbone Of Grassroots Leadership In Limbang
LIMBANG: Community Chiefs and Heads of Ethnic Groups (KMKK) continue to serve as the backbone of grassroots leadership in strengthening community development and safeguarding the welfare of the people.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, said the KMKK play an important role as the main link between the government and the community to ensure that development agendas are implemented effectively.
The Bukit Kota Assemblyman also stressed that the welfare of KMKK members must be given due attention so that they can continue to carry out their responsibilities well.
According to him, the current leadership structure in Limbang involves 46 Heads of Ethnic Groups (Ketua Kaum), seven Penghulu and one Pemanca.
Meanwhile, the appointment of village heads requires candidates to possess at least the SPM qualification and be below 70 years of age.
He added that the Sarawak Government remains committed to empowering rural development, with an allocation of RM5 million annually for each state constituency (DUN).
He said this during the KMKK 2026 Aidilfitri Get-Together held at Dewan Batu Biah here on Saturday.
The event, organised by the Limbang Islamic KMKK Welfare Body, was also attended by a representative of the Limbang District Officer as well as local KMKK members. -UKASnews
