Aidilfitri Fosters Unity, Strengthens Goodwill In Sarawak
KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Agencies Aidilfitri Thanksgiving Ceremony Year 1447H/2026M was more than a festive gathering, serving instead as a meaningful platform to nurture unity and interfaith harmony across the state.
Organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall, the event brought together about 1,000 guests comprising staff from Islamic agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and representatives of various religious organisations.
The celebration was further enlivened by the presence of Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, who graciously officiated the launch ceremony and took time to visit the food stalls themed ‘Beraya di Perantauan’.
A total of 16 stalls were set up, featuring various local and international delicacies, reflecting the cultural diversity and creativity of Islamic agencies in celebrating Aidilfitri.
The event also featured performances, video screenings and competitions such as best stall, digital Raya cards and TikTok Raya which combined traditional and contemporary elements.
MIS President Datuk Misnu Taha in his speech said that the theme ‘Beraya di Perantuan’ serves as a reminder that the spirit of Aidilfitri transcends borders, uniting Muslims wherever they may be.
“Syawal is a month of triumph and forgiveness, and an opportune time to strengthen bonds of kinship and Islamic brotherhood,” he said.
He added that the participation of various Islamic agencies and NGOs not only underscored a strong sense of collaboration, but also reflected the enduring solidarity within the Muslim community in Sarawak.
Notably, the event also welcomed representatives from other religious organisations, including the Association of Churches in Sarawak, Kuching Buddhist Society and Malaysia Hindu Sangam, further highlighting the spirit of tolerance and interfaith harmony that defines Sarawak’s social fabric.
The event concluded with a cake cutting ceremony by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak together with the heads of Islamic agencies as a symbol of gratitude, before he took his leave. -UKASnews
