Balance Modern Development With Preservation Of Dayak Traditions
MIRI: The Dayak community has been urged to strike a balance between modern development and the preservation of ancestral values and traditions.
Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said that in today’s era of globalisation, efforts to preserve cultural identity are crucial to ensure that heritage is not lost over time.
“Younger generations must be given the space and opportunity to carry forward their cultural legacy, while strengthening their sense of identity amid the tide of modernisation,” he said.
He was speaking at the annual dinner of the Persatuan Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) 2026, held at a leading hotel here on Saturday.
At the same time, Datuk Dr Penguang expressed his appreciation to the organisers and congratulated the leadership and members of GADS on the successful hosting of the event in conjunction with its 12th anniversary.
He said the milestone reflects a journey marked by commitment, challenges and achievements in empowering the Dayak community across the state.
The Marudi Assemblyman also expressed pride in the role played by GADS in strengthening unity and preserving cultural heritage, particularly among the younger generation.
“The spirit of volunteerism and cooperation demonstrated by the association’s members proves that the Dayak community continues to progress with strong unity and identity,” he opined.
In this regard, he encouraged GADS to continue serving as an inclusive, progressive and relevant platform in nurturing more capable and competitive young leaders.
The event was also attended by community leaders, government agency representatives, and association members, serving as a platform to strengthen ties among the attendees. -UKASnews
