Proposed Reconstruction Of Lundu District Police Headquarters Under Consideration
LUNDU: The proposed reconstruction of the Lundu District Police Headquarters (IPD) is now under government consideration as a strategic step to strengthen security infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of service delivery to the local community.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and Santubong Member of Parliament Dato Sri Nancy Shukri stated that the proposal was submitted by the Lundu District Police Headquarters (IPD) through the District Police Chief, with two potential locations identified as sites for the new development.
According to her, the proposed locations are opposite and adjacent to the Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) Lundu, however, the proposal is still in its early stages and requires further study, including state government approval, particularly concerning land ownership matters.
She said this during a press conference following an official working visit to the Lundu District Police Headquarters (IPD) on Friday.
She emphasised that the need to upgrade the Lundu District Police Headquarters (IPD) is in line with its role as a primary centre for the community to access security services and lodge complaints, thereby necessitating more modern conducive facilities.
In a related development, she also announced that the Sematan Police Station development project under the 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP) has been approved with a cost of RM2 million.
She said that the project involved the demolition and reconstruction of the existing wooden structures into a permanent building and is currently in the pre-implementation phase.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Nancy also explained that the proposal for the new District Police Headquarters (IPD) must undergo established procedures, including the new preparation of a proposal paper to be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) for evaluation in terms of necessity and cost implications.
The visit also saw the presentation of equipment contributions under the NS Rangkaian Kasih Programme, involving canopies, chairs, and tables to support the operations and community programmes of the Lundu IPD.
From 2023 to 2025, a total of RM836,101 has been channelled to support the logistic needs of the police and the community, including the provision of canopies, public address systems, and solar lights.
Also in attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of the National Welfafe Foundation Nordina Haron, Deputy Federal Director of the Sarawak Social Welfare Department Mohd Ali Taib, and Lundu District Police Chief Supt Sudirman Kram.-UKASnews
