MBM Urged To Elevate People-Centred Service Delivery
MIRI: Members of the Miri City Council (MBM) are called upon to further elevate people-oriented services while upholding a high standard of integrity in carrying out their duties, in line with rising public expectations of local authority governance.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian said the role of councillors requires strong commitment and reflects local authority leadership standards that should be emulated at the national level.
According to him, Miri’s status as one of approximately 20 cities in Malaysia places it within a key group that consistently draws public attention.
“Today, the public is more aware and discerning, with higher expectations for efficient and transparent service delivery.
“We are no longer in the 1970s or even a decade ago.
“In 2026, expectations are significantly higher. We must work harder, remain transparent and consistently prioritise the interests of the people,” he said.
He made these remarks during the Swearing-in ceremony for the reappointment of Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang at the MBM Main Hall on Sunday.
The Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government stressed that MBM members must uphold integrity, accountability and excellence in service delivery.
Commenting on Adam Yii’s reappointment as Miri City Mayor, he described leadership continuity as a crucial factor in ensuring consistent implementation of urban development plans.
He highlighted that urban development is not the Mayor’s responsibility alone but requires the collective effort of council staff, members, government agencies, the private sector and local communities.
Also present were Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yiew, Miri Division Resident Galong Luang and Miri City Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad. -UKASnews
